The authors' goal is to guide development facilitators in implementing participatory techniques. They have created an eight-step sequence that can easily be followed by both new and experienced facilitators who want to use participatory tools. It has long been known that participation by communities in the development process improves the likelihood of project success. This field guide and the eight-step process give a structured approach on how to begin a community, neighborhood, or organizational development project.
